One wing, five sectors, twenty seven squadron, one capital
London Wing is part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, one of the country's largest youth organisations. We are run by volunteers, for young people, right across London.
Our purpose
Inspiring young Londoners since 1941
Cadets join from age 12 and stay until 20, building confidence through flying, adventure training, sport, ceremonial duties and nationally recognised qualifications. No prior experience is needed and there is no requirement to join the armed forces.
Squadrons are led by uniformed and civilian volunteers — many of them former cadets — supported by wing staff who run camps, courses and competitions throughout the year.

Our history
Eight decades in the capital
1938
The Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC) is formed, to prepare young men for Service in the Royal Air Force
1941
The ADCC is rebranded with Royal assent, into the Air Training Corps (ATC)
1960s
Flying and Gliding opportunities and a close knit relationship with the RAF allow the Corps to flourish
1980s
The First Female Cadets are admitted into the Corps
2010s
BTEC qualifications and STEM activities join the cadet syllabus.
2017
The ATC and CCF are combined administratively, into the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC)
Today....
Over 2500 Cadets and 250 Staff parade across the Capital Weekly
Joining or volunteering
Cadets can join between 12 and 17 years old. Adults over 20 can volunteer as uniformed staff or civilian committee members — full training is provided and no military background is required.
